Execution: The Key to Increase Your Business Value [M&A Musings #2]
Welcome to our “M&A Musings” series, where we share insights on mergers and acquisitions after decades of facilitating M&A transactions.
Our last entry was “Why You Should ‘Run to Sell’ Your Business.” Whether you sell or not, you will most likely increase the value of your company.
Today, we’re talking about why you need good execution to increase your business value. Let’s dive in.
Between me and my business partner, Mike Ridder, the Blueprint team has a combined 65+ years of experience working with companies as high as $50 million in revenue.
Throughout that time, we’ve learned some important, endearing things about entrepreneurs (ourselves included).
For one? While you may be very knowledgeable about your products, technology, or service, that doesn’t necessarily make you good at the execution required to run a successful business.
Unless you get really, really lucky, you need to execute well if you want to grow your business and increase its value.
It may seem simple, but it’s not as common as you might think.
How to Execute Well with EOS
Even the most successful entrepreneurs struggle with execution. That’s likely why the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) found traction (pun intended) so quickly after Gino Wickman, the founder, started teaching it in the early part of this century.
After he published the immensely popular book Traction, EOS really took off.
Here at Blueprint, we believe EOS is a robust method of execution for businesses of the size and type we are fortunate to call clients.
We have worked with more companies than we can count that are functioning well with the system.
EOS works well because it:
Brings focus to an organization
Helps prioritize the most important initiatives aligned with achieving the company’s strategic goals
Doesn’t let anyone off the hook for poor performance
Every week, every person on your team must answer for their Scorecard metrics, their to-dos, and their Rocks.
Our friend from Minneapolis, Gregg Saunders, finds EOS immensely valuable, too. He became a huge fan after using it successfully in his own company. In fact, Gregg believes in it so strongly, he became a professional EOS implementer.
This article is not intended to sell EOS by any means. There are other methodologies that are equally successful.
It is intended to sell a bias for execution in business!
Get Better at Business Execution
Being good at your product, service, or technology will take only you so far. If your company isn’t set up for robust execution, it will inevitably stall and potentially fail.
At the very least, a lack of proper execution will cause your results to suffer. Instead of increasing business value, you find yourself decreasing value and falling further away from your long-term goals.
At Blueprint, we’re in the business of helping companies execute well, march steadily toward your strategic goals, and realize the highest potential value of your company.
Give us a call if you want to discuss further. We love listening to good business stories, even if the story is that you currently aren’t fully reaching your company’s potential. (That’s where we can help!)
